Education and Specialty
Judy Martin is a Licensed Professional Counselor that joined the Georgia Behavioral Health Professionals group in May 2018. Judy graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, leading to an early career in marketing, sales, and customer service. Following a mid-life career change, Judy graduated from Mercer University with a Master degree in Mental Health Counseling. Post-graduate experience has included working with a variety of diverse clients in educational, home-based, and private practice environments.
Judy is licensed by the Georgia State Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage & Family Therapists. She is certified by both the National Board of Certified Counselors and the Interdisciplinary Council on Development and Learning. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia.
Judy enjoys working with individuals of all ages. She strives to create a safe and compassionate therapeutic relationship with her clients, viewing the counseling process as an evolution of growing trust, intimacy, mutual respect, and collaboration. Regardless of circumstances, she believes that all people hold the innate power to emerge from crisis and life struggles with a sense of hope and empowerment. Judy's specialties include:

Judy's approach is integrative, combining aspects of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness based interventions. Her continuing education has been focused on areas of interest: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Suicide Prevention and Aftercare, Internal Family Systems, DIR/Floortime play-based therapy.
Judy grew up in Florida, later relocating with her family to several Midwest cities before eventually settling in Atlanta, where she has enjoyed living in both suburban and in-town neighborhoods. She is married and a mother to three grown children- a daughter and two sons, one of whom has developmental and learning differences. She has volunteered and been a substitute teacher at a school that teaches children with developmental disabilities as well as a school that works primarily with immigrant and refugee children. Judy's varied life experiences, including navigating her own family losses (death of both parents after long illnesses and sudden deaths of two brothers), inform and complement her therapeutic practice. Judy enjoys spending time with her family, nature walks, reading and writing.
