About Christy J Gardner, LPC

Allowing all emotions to be expressed, without judgment, criticism or analysis and listening with heart best describe her approach to counseling. She honors her clients and their stories and focus on building a trusting relationship with them. Her main role is not that of the “expert,” but as a trained professional to assist the client. Her beliefs are similar to Carl Rogers and that is that people are resourceful, capable of self-understanding and self-direction, able to make constructive changes and to live effective and productive lives. This inspires Christy's person-centered approach to counseling.

A Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, trained to effectively help grievers recover from loss. The Grief Recovery Program was developed by someone who was going through loss himself, so the program is not just a theory, but also a method that has worked for millions of people continuously for the past 40 years. Being present to another person’s pain is not about taking away the pain. It’s about being a companion to the pain.

As a Spanish teacher, Christy enjoyed being a listening ear for my students. She'd always had a desire to help people, so in 2003 she went back to college (Augusta University) to become a counselor. She left the classroom in 2006 and spent 10 years working as a school counselor until retirement in 2015. Since retirement, she has been working as a therapist, pursuing my passion for helping others.
