Katherine Adams is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Georgia. She earned her Masters of Family Therapy degree from Mercer University- School of Medicine in 2018. Katherine has an interest in working with adolescents, children, and young adults. Katherine has specific interests in working with LGBTQIA+ populations, trauma work with women, therapy work with teenagers, providing family therapy and couples therapy, and more. Katherine has previous experience with working in hospital settings and providing crisis assessments/management and working in community mental health care to provide individual, family, and couples therapy for all ages and treating a wide range of presenting concerns and psychological diagnoses. Some of Katherine’s upcoming professional goals are to pursue EMDR and DBT therapy certifications, and to become an AAMFT-approved supervisor in the next few years.
Katherine’s approach to therapy is humanistic and collaborative, with an investment in providing empathetic and holistic care. Katherine values the strengths and knowledge that clients bring to their care and enjoys working together with clients to determine goals and what healing and growth specifically means to each client. Additionally, Katherine has the mindset that clients are the experts of their own lives and collaboration is key to growth and healing. Katherine also values self-disclosure when appropriate in sessions to be authentic and to create healthy therapeutic relationships. Katherine practices from therapeutic approaches such as collaborative language therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, family systems therapy, and utilizing skills from dialectal behavioral therapy.
