Dr. Brar is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and has completed a Child and Adolescent Fellowship. She takes a biopsychosocial approach with her patients while providing a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and individually tailored treatment plan, which may include medications, therapy, or a combination of both. Dr. Brar is a dedicated and compassionate physician who believes in the importance of collaboration with her patients and team members to provide optimal care. Additionally, she values the influence of culture, spirituality, and past experiences of each individual, allowing her to better understand her patients.
Having a keen interest in cultural psychiatry, Dr. Brar has participated in several studies related to South Asian mental health, for which she received 2nd place and 3rd place in related poster presentations for the annual Indo-American Psychiatric Association scientific session in 2017 and Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association's Skobba Poster Competition 2018, respectively. Dr. Brar has also done some research related to medical student interest in Psychiatry and plans to be involved in teaching of medical students/residents in the near future.
Dr. Brar is a member of several professional associations, including the American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Georgia Association of Physicians of Indian Heritage, Atlanta Psychoanalytic Society, and Indo-American Psychiatric Association (IAPA), where she has served as resident member on the Board of Trustees, and currently holds the role of IAPA Newsletter Editor in Chief.
As an advocate for self care, Dr. Brar enjoys the following activities outside of medicine: Arts/crafts, DIY projects, baking, watching movies, and quality time with family.
Dr. Brar completed her general psychiatry residency at Morehouse School of Medicine, where she served as chief resident in her 4th year and was awarded GME and Psychiatry resident of the year. Dr. Brar went on to complete a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Indiana University. She has also completed the 2-year Core Program at Emory University Psychoanalytic Institute.
